Favourite Retro Toys of 2013
Here's our Favourite Retro Toys of 2013!
1- Shogun Warriors
As a kid the Shogun Warriors were the toys I've always wanted... and never got any. But now in 2013, we managed to find two of them; Gaiking and the coolest of them all Grendizer! The Shogun Warriors were the central characters of a line of toys licensed by Mattel Inc. during the late 1970s that consisted of a series of imported Japanese robots based on the then popular anime shows featuring giant robots.
2- Aliens
We love Kenner's Aliens collection and this year we found lots and I mean lots of them! The highlight was the Aliens Queen Hive playset.
3- Adventure People
My All Time Great Action Figure is a Fisher Price Adventure People and in 2013 during a trip at the flea market we found it… Clawtron!
4- Masters of the Universe
We found lots of awesome original MOTU figures in 2013. Whiplash, Mer-Man, Tung Lashor, Hordak, Sy-Klone, Roboto, Battle Armor Skeletor, Leech, Rattlor, Two Bad and tons more!
5- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
One of our goals in 2013 was to find more of the original Playmates TMNT and we did. Sergeant Bananas, Ace Duck, Foot Soldier, April O'Neil and more.

Shogun Warriors Goldorak!
Now I've managed to find online the missing missiles, the double headed, sickle-shaped axe (it comes apart and the pieces are stored in his shoulders) called "Hakken"and replacement stickers. All I have to do now is order them.
Unreleased in the US, Goldorak (also Grendizer or Grandizer) is more than likely the rarest of the Mattel Shogun Warriors released outside Japan.
Our collection of Shogun Warriors Jumbo Machinders is growing nicely! Never I though we would find any of them. Now we are missing Dragun, Mazinga, Raydeenm Godzilla, Daimos and Rodan.

Shogun Warriors Grendizer!
We went to a local manga store to look at what they had. And there behind the counter I saw this Shogun Warriors Grendizer. Last time I've seen one, I was a little kid. I asked to see it. The owner told me she had just got it from an old man. It wasn't in perfect condition but still… I had to get it. After talking with her for sometime she finally came up with a price… sold!

New York 2099
After years of wars, everyone was living happy together...
Fisher Price's Adventure People, Battlestar Galactica members, Dreadnoks, Plasticman, Thor, Beta Ray Bill, Hulk, his son Skaar, Iron Man, Wolverine, Ronin... everyone together making the New York of 2099 a better place.
Even two gigantic statues of past heroes were standing among them, Godzilla and Gaiking. Everything was a ok...
What did they not know what was Thanos was back... and found some new allies.

Flea Market Hunting : Shogun Warriors
As a kid the Shogun Warriors were the toys I've always wanted... and never got. Now 30 years later I finally own one, GAIKING!!!
The Shogun Warriors were the central characters of a line of toys licensed by Mattel Inc. during the late 1970s that consisted of a series of imported Japanese robots based on the then popular anime shows featuring giant robots.
These toys featured spring-loaded launcher weapons such as missiles, shuriken and battle axes. Some were able to launch their fists while the later diecast versions also had the ability to transform into different shapes.
Gaiking is one of many robots released back in the days. The one we found still has its spring-loading fist but was missing his missiles. Most of the stickers are still there. Overall he is in great condition.
Like certain other toy lines of the 1970s, the Shogun Warriors came under pressure over safety concerns regarding their spring-loaded weapons. It was feared that children might launch the weapons and hit other children or pets in the eye. There was also a risk that children might swallow the small plastic missiles and other parts. Toy manufacturers then faced new regulations due to reported injuries received as a result of playing with these toys. Consequently, many toy companies were forced to remodel existing toy lines with child-safe variations (such as spring-loaded "action" missiles that would remain attached to the toy). For this reason, as well as declining sales, the Shogun Warrior line had disappeared by 1980.
Shogun Warriors were licensed in 1979–1980 for a 20–issue series by Marvel Comics, written by Doug Moench and featuring art by Herb Trimpe. In the comic, the Shogun Warriors were created by a mysterious group called the Followers of the Light. Human operators were chosen from all around the world to operate the massive robots in order to battle evil.
Here is Gaiking compared to two of our most prized bigger action figures. Gaiking is 24 inches tall! A gigantic robot and now one of our most beloved figure in our ever growing collection.
