Cinema of Fear

Months ago I got on Ebay a very cool Mez-Itz Cinema of Fear 3-pack of some of the most popular characters in horror cinema history. Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th films, Freddy Krueger from the A Nightmare on Elm Street films and Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre films.

These rather small, cartoonish yet extremely detailed action figures have become my son's favorite! Yes, my soon to be four years old son loves them! And no I don't see anything wrong with it. Most of the time we play with them they end up slashing and slicing other figures!

Vintage Star Wars

For the past days I have been talking about all of the cool vintage 12" Star Wars figures I got on Ebay which were originally released in 1978-79 from Kenner. Here's all of them for a group shot.

Without a doubt, my son's favorite are both Darth Vader and Boba Fett.

And finally here's the original Kenner catalogue spread of the 12" collection!

Vintage Star Wars

The last of the vintage 12" Star Wars collection figures released in 1978 I got on Ebay was a Jawa. Since every figures of this collection are in scale one with the other, the Jawa is about 8" tall.

Unfortunately the figure was far from complete and missing all of his accessories but for the price I paid I won't complain. But for my son it doesn't matter as he loves the Jawas and he was so happy to see that I got him one.

Vintage Star Wars

Another figure we got from the original 1978 12" Star Wars collection is Chewbacca! Just like me, my son loves Chewie. He is one of the coolest character of the original trilogy. I seriously never met anyone who doesn't like that Wookie!

The Chewbacca figure is the tallest of them all, 16" high! It is BIG! It is not the most detailed figure of the collection and its articulation are rather limited too but we are still extremely proud to own him.

Unfortunately just a few hours after getting the figure, the elastic band that holds the arms cut itself. For a figure that is 32 years old, I kind of expected something like that to happen.

Thanks to the magic of the Internet I found an rather easy way to fix it. With a medium size "Zip-Tie", I was able to re-attach the arms. Feed the Zip-Tie through the loop in one arm (creating a large "U" and feeds the whole thing through the figure's torso. Then  poke the pointy end of the Zip-Tie through the other arm loop and then poke the pointy end (again) through the slotted end of the Zip-Tie and ratchet it tight but slowly. Then, simply cut the excess Zip-Tie with wire cutters. It is now almost like brand new!

Vintage Star Wars

Another extremely cool figure I got on Ebay from the Kenner 12" Star Wars collection is Boba Fett! Standing at about 13.5" this was one figure that I almost owned as a kid. I remember being at the store with my mom. We saw that huge figure with the Star Wars logo on it. Since it came out before the release of The Empire Strike Back film, I had no clue who he was. We ended up not buying it. But once we we're home my mom told me that we could go back and get it. When he arrived the figure was not there anymore...

Unlike the other figures in that collection, Boba Fett as a bit more articulation. He has a lateral shoulder, elbow, wrist, and knee ankle articulation. He has a rather useless see-through eye feature reminiscent of the 12" Six Million Dollar Man figure also from Kenner.

Boba came with lots of accessories. There's a cool cloth cape and a backpack. It also originally came with a missile and gun, which unfortunately the seller didnt have anymore. I have to say that I am very surprise by the level of details of the figure.

Vintage Star Wars

The 12" Star Wars figures collection released from Kenner in 1978 are among the coolest looking ever! Unfortunately I personally never owned one as a kid. For over a year now I've been trying to find them everywhere. Our patience finally paid!

I found four of them on Ebay for rather extremely cheap! Here's the first one; the vintage 1978 1:6 15" Darth Vader "doll".

This version of Darth Vader is simply awesome! He is huge, extremely detailed. It came with its cloth cape and red lightsaber (the later which the seller unfortunately didn't have anymore but I'm sure we'll find one someday). I have to say that like most figures from that collection, his articulation are rather limited to only his hips, shoulders, and neck.

Vintage Star Wars

I remember that as a kid one of the Star Wars creatures I wanted to own the most was the Rancor. First appearing in The Return of The Jedi. The giant creature with long claws meet his end at the hands of Luke Skywalker who was thrown into a pit to fight the monster in Jabba the Hutt's palace.

My son and I have been trying to find a Rancor monster figure at the flea market, toy convention but we we're without any luck... until last week when I spotted one on Ebay for rather cheap and actually won the bid for only $10.

Standing at about 10 inches tall, this is one big and extremely cool figure. We now must find a Gamorrean Guard to serve as lunch for our new big friend.

A couple of months ago I got my son some very cool M.A.S.K. action figures and vehicules. I finally managed to find some more on Ebay for extremely cheap!

Above is all of the figures and the two vehicules I got for only $2! For me the highlight is the Jackhammer SUV which I always though was cool. Below is a look at all of our M.A.S.K. collection.

Flea Market Hunting: Star Wars

Another great collection released years ago by Playskool was the Star Wars Jedi Force. Not that many figures were released but most of them are actually impossible to find or either go for extremely high on Ebay.

We already own C3-PO, R2-D2, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader and Yoda. All of them are nicely sculpted and designed. They all feature some very out of this world cartoon looks which makes them way too cool. Last weekend at the flea market I found Anakin! He didn't have his lightsaber but the figure is in good condition. Apart from the multiple variants of some characters we almost have them all now!

Flea Market Hunting: Spider-man & Friends

Last weekend I decided to go to the flea market all by myself. My son was with his mother and I had a few hours to spare. In the end it was worth it since I got him some very cool figures.

The very first superhero my son got into was Spider-Man. A few years ago Playskool released some amazing Spider-Man and Friends collection. Back then I got the Spider-Man figure (without even knowing that one day I will have a son). Last year at the flea market we got a cool Hulk figure. And now I finally found a new one!

Lizard is probably one of the coolest looking figure of the Spider-Man and Friends collection. On Ebay it goes for ridiculously high. This is another collection that was quickly sold out by collectors when it was meant for preschoolers to play with. Hopefully we will be able to find more soon.

Lego Star Wars

Last month I managed to find the very cool Star Wars Tie Fighter Interceptor Lego set (#6202). It came with a Tie fighter pilot. Well I now got my son a Lego Darth Maul along with two IG-88 figures. We love the Lego toys and the Star Wars collection is simply amazing!

Here's our collection so far... more to come in the next days!

100th post! Vintage Star Wars

This is our 100th posts! Thank you to everyone who have been reading our blog! Its been a great ride so far and it is far from over!

For only two bucks we recently won on Ebay the very cool Return of the Jedi Tie Interceptor. This spaceship is big and looks very nice. The dagger-shaped wings can be taken off (exploded) by pressing buttons on each sides. Released in 1984 by Kenner this goes for around extremely high on Ebay.

Vintage Star Wars

I managed to win a couple of vintage Kenner Star Wars figures for my son on Ebay. The seller lives near our place so I saved on the shipping. In the end, all six figures cost me $13. All of them are in great condition and with their respective weapons.

As a kid I never owned the Death Squad Commander but now he's part of our collection. Vintage Chewbacca still looks great after all these years. This was one of the original first three figure I got back when they first came out. That little Power droid was another figure I never owned.

My son loves R2-D2, so its no surprise that R5-D4 is now also a favorite. The FX7 droid isn't the coolest figure of the galaxy but having a doctor can always be helpful. Finally, Greedo is probably one of the coolest figure from the original series.

But this whole deal ended up costing me much more then I expected. Once we got there, the seller asked me if we we're looking for anything else... of course we were! In the coming days I'll post about all the crazy stuff we got including two HUGE spaceships!

Hulk Hogan

Growing up in the 1980s, I can admit that I was addicted to professional wrestling. And like most kids of my age my idol was none other then Hulk Hogan! The all American WWF champion represented everything that my young virgin mind though of good.

Unfortunately as a kid I never owned that ultra cool large 16" Hulk Hogan figure released from LJN Toys. But not too long ago I managed to find one on Ebay. No I don't sleep with it but I have to admit that I am extremely proud of it.

One thing that's even cooler is that I am slowly getting my son into wrestling. And no, we won't be watching that new WWE junk. Old school wrestling is what is playing at our house! And while my son is not really familiar with wrestling for some reason he knows that Hulk Hogan kick ass! Well he does but he is sadly no match to the almighty Godzilla, which still remains undefeated in our house.

M.A.S.K.

A few months ago I got on Ebay some M.A.S.K. (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) figures and vehicules for my son. I was a little too old when the show first started back in 1985 but my brother was a big fan. An hybrid of G.I.Joe and Transformers, the Kenner collection was among the coolest at the time.

I got Wildcat which comes with an Buddy Hawk figure. It is basically a tow truck that transforms itself into a vertical fighting machine. Afterburn which is a dragster that transforms itself into a stealth jet and cannon launcher. But the coolest of them all, is Rhino! The huge tractor rig that becomes a mobile defense unit! Rhino came with a Matt Trakker figure.

I hope that in a near future I will be able to find more cool M.A.S.K. vehicules and figures.

Twelve inches fun: Spider-Man

Spider-Man was probably the very first superhero that my son got into. Peter Parker's alter ego has everything for a kid to love. A cool look, costume, attitude and some of the most interesting and colorful villains in any comics.

My son is shown here with a 14" Spider-Man figure I got when the third film came out. Sure he wasn't even born back then but now its all is. Spider-Man 3 is probably the film I've seen the most with my son. Also in there is an 10" Carnage figure from the Famous Covers collection released in the 1990s I think. I got this from Ebay for very cheap a couple of months ago. Now we need more big sized Spider-Man figures...

Twelve inches fun: Pulsar Ultimate Man of Adventure

One of my personal all time favorite action figure is the ultimate enemy of Pulsar... Hypnos! Released by Mattel in 1976 or 1977, Pulsar is a muscular bad guy that wears a killer mask. You can activate the "Hypnotic Powers" by pressing the switch on the side of him. Thanks to his see through transparent chest, you too can be hypnotize if you look at the hypnotic spinning disk on his chest. Sparks actually fly from his chest... now just how cool is that!

As kids, my brother and I each owned a Hypnos figure but we sadly never got Pulsar... it is probably why we both grew up so fucked up a few years later... due to our lack of ever owning the ultimate man of adventure Pulsar.

Not too long ago I spotted a loose Hypnos (sadly sans his mask) on Ebay and immediatly got it. Needless to say that my son absolutely loves him! In our universe of twelves inches action figures, Hypnos is one that actually kick ass!

Spider-Man & Friends Action Pal Superhero

The Spider-Man & Friends Action Pal Superhero collection from Hasbro is probably the cutest incarnation of some of the most famous Marvel characters. As far as I know only three were made; Spider-Man, Hulk and The Thing. Lucky for us, not too long ago I got all three on Ebay for a couple of bucks each (they are now rather hard to find).

Standing at about 9" tall, they made of plastic but also materials, giving them a soft look and feel. Needless to say that each night my son sleeps with one of them and actually ends up holding it for most of the night.

X-Men Origins Wolverine Slashin' Action

As most action figures fanatics, I'm addicted to Ebay. Seriously, its incredible all you can find in there and sometimes for really cheap. Well yesterday we received another package from Ebay...

Last week I won two new X-Men Origins Wolverine Slashin' Action figures for a little under 4 bucks (they go for $49 each on Amazon)! Both are about 10 inches high, features pop-out claws, electronic slashings sounds, twist and release spring loaded torso and it actually talks!

Needless to say, my son played with them through the night. And now our kick ass Incredible Hulk Smashin' Stompin' figure as someones to fear!

Star Wars Playskool Jedi Force

A couple of years ago Playskool, which is a subsidiary of Hasbro released some of the coolest Star Wars figures with their Jedi Force collection. These pre-school figures were nicely sculpted and had some great features. These days, those figure are extremely hard to find.

Through the years I did managed to find some for my son but last week I kinda hit the jackpot over at Ebay (the best place to find anything) and won five Star Wars Playskool Jedi Force figures for 99 cents! I got Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker, Jedi Master Yoda, C3-PO, R2-D2 and the coolest of them all... Darth Vader. Vader stands at about 6 1/2 inch and like Luke and Yoda, comes with a lightsaber. These are perfect for the little ones who are getting into the Star Wars universe.

I gave them to my son tonight and his jaw almost dropped to the floor! It was like as if he couldn't believe it! I also took a pictures of the new ones with the ones we already own, which are C3-PO, R2-D2, Han Solo and Chewbacca. Now we are missing Luke in X-Wing suit, Anakin Skywalker and a couple others. Needless to say I plan on finding them all.
